Subke GmbH began providing fulfillment and logistics services 10 years ago. It grew out of Harald Subke’s online trading business.
2001 Online trading
In 2001, Mr. Subke started selling sunglasses on eBay. The idea came to him when he saw the Terminator movie and realized that the cool sunglasses worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film were not available to buy in Germany.
Mr. Subke bought the sunglasses in America and sold them online on the eBay marketplace and later also on Amazon.
The demand was so great that more glasses were added to the range.
Sales on the marketplaces grew steadily and Mr. Subke developed his own brand of sunglasses.
As sales increase, so do the tasks. Many retailers in e-commerce are familiar with this. The photos were no longer taken by yourself, but by a professional. The garage is full of goods and you can no longer keep up with packing them. The orders pile up to 700 per day.
The supply chain was set up optimally so that the inventory is not too high, but also not empty. This is an important criterion, especially for selling on Amazon, in order to have a good inventory index (LBI).
Now the whole thing had to be expanded and Mr. Subke built the first warehouse and hired employees.
More and more retailers from the surrounding area became aware of Mr. Subke’s own fulfillment service and took advantage of it.
2015 Subke Fulfillment
Then the time had come: demand and the fulfillment business were so great that Subke GmbH became a logistics and fulfillment company. The online business with sunglasses was sold so that everyone could concentrate on the fulfillment of the goods.
A multi-storey shelving system with conveyor belts was built into the warehouse to make order processing more efficient for online retailers.
In 2018, Mr. Reinhold was hired as warehouse manager and further expanded the logistics with the infrastructure in the warehouse for customers.
In 2021, I was hired as a web designer with SEO skills. When I started, there was still a JTL online store with sunglasses under the Subke.com domain. Of course, we changed that and built this website. Today, online retailers can find out about our fulfillment service on the website and make inquiries.
Thanks to the great and reliable work of our employees in the warehouse and the fact that Subke GmbH can be found on the Internet, the business continues to grow to this day.
Mr. Subke expanded, rented additional warehouses in Lüneburg and bought a building plot for another warehouse of his own.
2024 Subke Fulfillment
In 2024, Mr. Subke bought a large warehouse in Adendorf, which also had to be set up efficiently and the warehouse manager, Mr. Reinhold, has his hands full again.
Today, Subke GmbH has 40 employees and 3 warehouses with over 20,000 m³ of storage space.
In Adendorf, fulfillment is handled for many D2C online retailers with storage in shelving systems and high racks. A refrigerated warehouse is now also included.
Small goods continue to be stored in Kirchgellersen and many returns are accepted and checked by Amazon.
In the warehouse in the port of Lüneburg, the high racks are mainly used to store goods for Pre FBA, B2B and cross-docking customers.
IT is also being further developed in-house. An in-house CRM system with its own returns portal was developed.
2025 Company anniversary
The Subke logistics and fulfillment company has now been in existence for 10 years. The journey continues. Thanks to Mr. Subke’s willingness, Subke GmbH will certainly also celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Above all, we would like to thank our customers, who have already risen to over 400. Some of them have been with us from the very beginning.
But we would also like to thank our partners, who take on many different tasks such as customs clearance, interfaces and transportation.
