Cold storage off Hamburg

Cold storage off Hamburg in Adendorf
On December 1, 2024, we began operating our new cold storage facility. With this strategic move, we are expanding our already extensive range of services and setting new standards. Our cold storage facility offers retailers the ability to store temperature-sensitive goods.

Our cold storage technology opens up new possibilities in fulfillment

Over time, we have established a reputation as a fulfillment service provider. With our new cold storage facility, we are once again demonstrating our ability to adapt to changing market needs and respond flexibly to our customers’ individual requirements.

Our new warehouse in Adendorf, just outside Hamburg, with an impressive area of 5,400 m², enables retailers to expand their businesses. The space in the warehouse’s basement has a ceiling height of six meters and is ideally suited for use as a passive cold storage facility.

Thanks to this excellent infrastructure, we are able to store temperature-sensitive products, such as semi-finished goods, under optimal conditions.

Next-Generation Fulfillment Services

We are now entering a new era in which we can offer our customers an expanded range of fulfillment services.

In addition to warehousing, we also offer services such as receiving goods, storage, packaging, worldwide shipping, processing returns, and refurbishment.

With the opening of the cold storage facility, we are taking a major step toward the future and opening up new opportunities for our dealers. The cold storage facility not only maintains a constant temperature year-round, but also offers an impressive capacity for storing a large number of pallets.

“At our facility in Adendorf, we not only offer more space for our customers’ goods, but also the ability to store these products under optimal climatic conditions,” said Harald Subke, managing director of Subke GmbH. “This new cold storage facility is further proof of our commitment to offering a high-quality and comprehensive fulfillment solution.”

Our passive cold storage facility

At our low-lying warehouse in Adendorf, we take advantage of natural ground cooling. This allows us to reliably store temperature-sensitive products at temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius year-round. The benefit for you is clear: Since no artificial energy is required for cooling, there are no additional costs—we therefore offer this storage space at the regular price per cubic meter.

Our active cold storage facility

Since the summer of 2026, we have also been offering 1,000 m³ of actively cooled storage space in Adendorf. Here, we guarantee a precisely controlled temperature between 10 and 15 degrees throughout the year—ideal for products that require a continuous cold chain. Comprehensive quality assurance is a given: The temperature in our cold storage facility is continuously measured and recorded.

Comprehensive service for refrigerated shipping with a sustainable reusable system

In addition to storage, Subke also handles the complex process of picking and packing refrigerated products. Retailers have the option of providing their own certified insulated packaging and ice packs. To ensure the packaging is prepared optimally, Subke stores the ice packs in its own freezers prior to shipment.

Particularly sustainable: To conserve resources and reduce packaging waste for the end customer, Subke offers to include a return label. End customers can return the high-quality thermal packaging and ice packs to Subke after receiving their order, where they are prepared for the next use and returned to inventory.

“IDA,” the Humanoid Apprentice: When a Robot Begins an Apprenticeship

Since the summer of 2026, a humanoid robot named “IDA” has been learning warehouse operations at ID Logistics Germany’s headquarters in Griesheim—it sorts items and assists with simple processes. The term “trainee” is used here figuratively, not in a legal sense: A machine cannot enter into an apprenticeship contract under the Vocational Training Act (BBiG). Yet this raises a question that extends beyond this individual pilot project.

Connecting Stripe to Fulfillment: Selling Without a Storefront System

There are merchants who sell successfully without ever having set up an online store. A payment link in the Instagram bio, a QR code at the trade show booth, a payment link in the offer email—payments are processed through Stripe, and the package is then shipped manually. This is exactly where things get tricky once sales volume reaches a certain level.
